What is Mediation?

Mediation is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties with the assistance of a qualified mediator.

It is a cheaper and faster alternative to court proceedings.  Although the courts encourage the use of mediation whenever possible, parties are not prevented from taking their dispute through the family court if a resolution cannot be reached.

Any settlement can be made legally binding and the process results in less friction between those involved.

At Staffordshire Mediation, the mediator guiding the resolution of your disagreement will be one of our highly trained and experienced barristers.

We provide :

  • A fully confidential service using the skill and independence of a barrister to help resolve your family dispute.

  • An unbiased assessment of the real issues between the parties and ways to overcome them.

  • Professional and impartial advice affording respect to all family members.

  • A completely fair and open setting.

How to begin the process

Please contact us if you would like to discuss your options. Should you wish Staffordshire Mediation to assist you through the mediation process, we will need to obtain a little bit of background information so that we can quickly assess your concerns and focus upon them.

To do this, we will ask you to complete the Referral Form. In relation to the Referral Form, not all sections will be relevant to your particular concerns and you only need to complete the sections you believe are appropriate.

We will then use this form as the basis for discussions at the first meeting with you.

You can download a copy of the Referral Form in Microsoft Word or PDF format.

In relation to the mediation process itself, it is important to remember that it's a voluntary process. Before undertaking mediation we will invite you to read through and sign the Agreement to Mediate Form, to confirm your understanding of mediation. A copy of this agreement can also be downloaded as a PDF.

Should you have any questions about these forms and want to speak to one of the mediators before filling them in, please get in touch.
